Find out more about this coffee:
Rogelio Peña Huaman is a lifelong coffee farmer from Nazareth de la Cumbre, a lush highland town in the San Ignacio Province of Cajamarca, Peru. In 2020, together with his son Franklin Peña Huaman, he founded Finca La Familia—a family-led initiative dedicated to producing exceptional specialty coffee.
Franklin, an experienced agricultural technician, had a vision: to unite his family and neighboring producers in processing and selling their coffee directly to national and international buyers. Though initially hesitant about the risks, Rogelio placed his trust in Franklin’s expertise. With Franklin’s deep knowledge of post-harvest processing and the family’s generations of cultivation experience, they combined tradition with innovation to bring their coffee to a new level.
From the fertile highlands of Finca La Familia comes a coffee born of passion and collaboration. Cherries are selectively harvested at peak ripeness, then floated to remove defects, pulped, and sealed for a 48-hour fermentation. This careful process enhances the coffee’s complexity, revealing crisp green apple brightness, rich caramel sweetness, and smooth dark chocolate undertones. The beans are then solar-dried for 25 days, further refining their flavor profile.
Spanning 25 hectares, Finca La Familia is now a cooperative effort among six families, including the Peña Huamans. More than a farm, it’s a symbol of community, sustainability, and shared purpose. Committed to organic, eco-friendly practices, the team nurtures the health of their soil and environment—ensuring a legacy of responsible cultivation.
Led by Franklin and a team of young, forward-thinking farmers, Finca La Familia continues to innovate, driven by a desire to bring their coffee to the global stage while building a brighter future for their community. Each cup tells a story of dedication, craftsmanship, and the vibrant spirit of Nazareth de la Cumbre—a truly memorable experience for those who value both quality and connection.
