17. Brazil – Eagle Monte Carmelo Café Delas
This coffee comes from Monte Carmelo in Cerrado Mineiro, one of Brazil’s major coffee growing areas.
Its most important story, however, is Café Delas.
Café Delas was created specifically to support women coffee producers. Coffees sourced through the programme come from women owned or women led farms and producer groups.
A dedicated premium is used to support training, resources, business development and greater financial independence.
The aim is not simply to place a different label on existing coffee. It is to strengthen the role women play in decision making, farm management and the commercial side of coffee production.
Since 2021, coffee within the Eagle Monte Carmelo programme has been sourced through Café Delas, bringing this social focus into a well established Brazilian coffee supply chain.
The coffee itself combines Catuai and Mundo Novo varieties and grows between approximately 800 and 1,200 metres above sea level. It is naturally processed, meaning ripe coffee cherries are dried with the fruit still surrounding the seed before milling.
Cerrado Mineiro has relatively predictable seasons compared with many coffee growing regions. A defined dry period around harvest helps producers manage drying more consistently. Brazil is famous for smooth, chocolate led coffee, and this lot retains that familiar style while carrying an important story about opportunity and representation within the industry.
