Day 11. Indonesia Natural Cipaganti West Java

This coffee is the result of a remarkable partnership between local farmers and the Little Fireface Project (LFP), an initiative led by Professor Anna Nekaris OBE. This unique collaboration links sustainable coffee farming with wildlife conservation, with a special focus on protecting the endangered Javan slow loris. By promoting wildlife-friendly practices, the project helps safeguard biodiversity while creating meaningful livelihoods for farming families.

The coffee is grown in home gardens across 60 hectares near the Gunung Papandayan Protected Forest, where Arabica trees thrive under shade alongside crops like tea, chayote, and cassava. This intercropping preserves the delicate ecosystem, provides additional income for farmers, and maintains a natural habitat for wildlife. Since 2016, producers have received training in organic methods and coffee processing, achieving organic certification in 2019.

Harvesting is entirely by hand, and farmers use natural processing methods, drying the beans with the fruit still intact. This approach adds richness and complexity to the cup, highlighting the care and attention given to each stage of production.

The result is a coffee with bright notes of grapefruit balanced by smooth milk chocolate. A lively acidity and full, rounded body make it especially suited to espresso, where its depth and sweetness truly shine. Every cup not only reflects the skill of the farmers but also supports the protection of endangered species and the resilience of rural communities.

This project is supported by Kindred Forest, a sourcing partner dedicated to rainforest conservation and Indigenous collaboration. Through a regenerative sourcing model that shares profits with farmers, Kindred Forest ensures that every product is fully traceable, shade-grown, and rooted in respect for biodiversity and cultural heritage. Together, these partnerships demonstrate how specialty coffee can drive both environmental protection and social empowerment.

Every cup tells a story. Our coffees are sourced from passionate farmers around the world, roasted with care in Buckinghamshire, and delivered fresh to your home. Treat yourself to something special, or share the gift of great coffee
