7. Guatemala - Huehuetenango
Introducing our Guatemala Huehuetenango SHB EP, sourced from the highlands of western Guatemala. Grown between 1,400 and 2,000 metres above sea level, this exceptional coffee is produced in the Huehuetenango sub-region by dedicated smallholders and cooperatives. A blend of Bourbon, Catuaí, Caturra, and Typica varietals, it is harvested from November to April and carefully processed using the fully washed method. Certified Fairtrade, this lot showcases the very best of Huehuetenango: a clean cup, vivid acidity, and prominent fruit and floral notes.
Guatemala is celebrated worldwide for its diversity of growing regions and nuanced flavour profiles. Huehuetenango, one of the country’s three non-volcanic regions, is particularly prized for its altitude, cool climate, and remote mountain valleys. Here, most farmers process their coffee on their own farms, using small hand-powered pulpers, natural fermentation, and clean water washing. Cherries are hand-picked, fermented in small batches, washed, and then dried slowly on raised beds or patios — methods that preserve clarity and highlight the region’s signature brightness.
The Guatemalan coffee industry has overcome significant challenges, including the impact of Coffee Leaf Rust (CLR) in the early 2010s. Yet through resilience and innovation, producers have pushed quality ever higher, with new processing techniques leading to record prices at the Cup of Excellence. Today, cooperatives provide vital support to smallholder farmers, offering access to financing, training, and better market opportunities, while helping members showcase their coffee as specialty.
This SHB EP regional blend captures everything we love about Huehuetenango: crisp acidity, floral aromatics, and vibrant fruit notes layered over a sweet, clean base. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or simply love a bright, complex cup, our Guatemala Huehuetenango SHB EP is a shining example of why this region is one of the world’s most respected origins.
